Zdroik, Kallas, Nylund, and Bromann Win at Tomahawk Speedway

By Gene Harmelink
After receiving nearly an inch of rain during the morning hours, a hot and humid night greeted drivers and fans of Tomahawk Speedway on Friday night.

There were repeat winners in all divisions, with Jason Zdroik winning a clean sweep in his WISSOTA Midwest Modified, pushing him up to fifth in National points, while John Kallas also completed a sweep in his WISSOTA Street Stock, vaulting him up to a third-place tie in National points. In Tomahawk Pure Stock action, Chris Nylund picked up a win, while Brit Bromann bested the Tomahawk Four-Cylinders.

Steve Brown and Mark Kralicek led the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds to the green flag for the start of their feature, with Kralicek taking the early lead, leading the first two laps. During lap three, Kralicek miscued a bit giving Brown the opening he needed to take the lead. It was Jason Zdroik, just four laps into the race, who would come from fifth to take the lead and the win in his Hartman Well Drilling-sponsored car. Rounding out the top five were: Mickey Nosser coming from seventh, Brown, Roger Walker after starting fourth, and Troy Smart who started sixth.

Jeff Hooland and Matt Troutman were on the front row for the start of the WISSOTA Street Stock feature, with Troutman taking the early lead, leading for the first lap. It would be Troutman’s brother, Keith, who would come from third to take the lead by the end of lap two. Keith Troutman was able to lead until the end of lap five, when John Kallas stole the show, taking the lead during lap six, eventually winning the feature in his Coors Light-sponsored Streeter. Rounding out the top five were: Keith Troutman, Russ Chester who came from fifth, Matt Troutman, and Hoogland.

Travis Fiske and Austyn Booth accepted the green flag first for the Tomahawk Pure Stocks to begin their feature, with Booth taking the lead, leading the first six laps. A series of four successive cautions for a variety of spins slowed the action and re-aligned the field, with Chris Nylund, who had come from fourth, gaining the advantage to take the lead and the eventual win in his Three Lakes Steel-sponsored Pure. Rounding out the top five were: Randy Conner from seventh, Wayne Eskola from fifth, Friske, and Matt Smith from twelfth.

Brandon Miller and Jay Wilberding lined up side-by-side for the start of the Tomahawk Four-Cylinder feature, but it would be Brit Bromann who would charge from third to take the lead, leading every lap of the feature to take the win in his Howard Bros. Plumbing & Heating-sponsored four-banger. Rounding out the top five were: Nick Visser from fourth, Roger Carne from fifth, Bill Anderson from seventh, and Miller.

Racing resumes on Friday, August 21, 2009, when once again all four divisions will be in action with the racing starting at 7:00.
