After receiving nearly an inch of rain during the morning hours, a hot and humid night greeted drivers and fans of Tomahawk Speedway on Friday night.

There were repeat winners in all divisions, with Jason Zdroik winning a clean sweep in his WISSOTA Midwest Modified, pushing him up to fifth in National points, while John Kallas also completed a sweep in his WISSOTA Street Stock, vaulting him up to a third-place tie in National points. In Tomahawk Pure Stock action, Chris Nylund picked up a win, while Brit Bromann bested the Tomahawk Four-Cylinders.

Steve Brown and Mark Kralicek led the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds to the green flag for the start of their feature, with Kralicek taking the early lead, leading the first two laps. During lap three, Kralicek miscued a bit giving Brown the opening he needed to take the lead. It was Jason Zdroik, just four laps into the race, who would come from fifth to take the lead and the win in his Hartman Well Drilling-sponsored car. Rounding out the top five were: Mickey Nosser coming from seventh, Brown, Roger Walker after starting fourth, and Troy Smart who started sixth.

As Mother Nature, spitting off and on, toyed with the emotions of drivers and fans alike. Owner Ron VanDusen made the decision to race on Friday night at Tomahawk Speedway and his decision turned out to be a good one. In any event, the racing faithful were treated to a night of entertainment and fun!

In WISSOTA Midwest Modified racing, Cody Schmidt and Mickey Nosser were on the front row as the cars approached the green flag. Mickey Nosser took advantage of a good start to take the lead, leading for the first four laps of the feature with Duane Dunbar, who started third, and Bruce Belland, who started fifth, giving chase. Two cautions, one for a spinning Robert Laskowski, Jr. and one for Jason Zdroik’a car losing body tin, realigned the field with Duane Dunbar taking quick advantage, charging to the lead.

As the race continued, caution free for the duration of the race, Dunbar pulled away from the field, with Nosser doing his best to keep up and Zdroik running solidly in third. By race end, Dunbar had taken the checkered to complete a sweep for the night. Rounding out the top five were: Nosser, Zdroik, Schmidt, and Laskowski, Jr.

On the last day of July, 2009, it was “Pete and Repeat Night” at the Tomahawk Speedway in Tomahawk, WI. Let’s talk about repeat first. There was a repeat winner in the Amsoil WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds with track point’s leader, Jason Zdroik, taking the win. In the Amsoil WISSOTA Street Stocks, John Kallas, track point’s leader, took the win, and in the Tomahawk Pure Stocks, track point’s leader, Chris Nylund, was the winner. The lone “pete” came in the only caution-free feature of the night and that was Phil Malouf, who took the win in his Four Cylinder Bandit.

John Johnson, Jr. and Dennis Mikkelson lined up on the front row to lead eleven Midwest Modifieds to the green for the start of the WISSOTA Midwest Modified feature. This feature got off to a rocky start involving two cautions prior to the completion of the first lap. Once things got sorted out, Johnson took the early lead, but led for just one lap, when Jeff McDonald, who had started third, took the lead, with Mickey Nosser, who had started fourth, right behind him.

The race night at Tomahawk Speedway, on July 24, got off to a late start due to a shower hitting the track just as the first heat of the night was circling the track waiting for the green flag. The cars were pulled off the track, the shower was allowed to pass, and then owner Ron VanDusen skillfully manicured the track back with the help of the grader, packing trucks, and the race drivers’ cars. Once racing began, it took a few heats to get the track in shape, but the feature races proved to be excellent.

In WISSOTA Midwest Modified action, Roger Walker and Dennis Mikkelson began the feature on the front row, but it was Bruce Belland, who had won his heat and had started third, who would grab the early lead. With Belland in the lead, Mikkelson and Jason Zdroik fought it out early for second, with Mikey Nosser and Roger Walker vying for the third spot. Track point’s leader, Zdroik’s night would end early as he pulled off the track with his engine suffering a broken rocker.
